Struggle. It’s something we all do. Life is full of difficulty, disappointments, and distress. And no one is free from it, because it’s baked into the fabric of our humanity. And yet, I truly believe that we can treat pain and feel more awake, more alive, and live into our best lives. The process, however, is not always easy.

What’s Therapy?

Working together, I will help you to meet your goals for feeling better. We’ll discuss your previous history and identify thinking patterns that are in your way. We’ll sort though emotions and investigate your strengths. And we’ll explore how to reconnect with yourself and with your capacity for mental health and wellness.

About me

What do I want you to get out of therapy?

Often we have someone to talk with. Maybe it’s a friend, or a family member. But sometimes we need to share with someone we trust. Someone that cares a lot, but isn’t on the inside of your life the way a friend or a relative is on the inside. That’s where a I come in. I listen, and care, and want you to feel safe opening up about where you are. And most importantly, when you are sharing with me, you will never be judged, and you’ll never be “thrown under a bus!”

Perhaps the most important part of what I do is to give you a sense that you are not alone. I know it can be so isolating when something serious is happening, and you have no one to talk to. Feeling alone makes everything feel worse! Our relationship will give you that feeling of safety that you get when you know that you’ve got someone who is on your side!

It is my goal that our relationship will carry you from chaos to order, from despair to hope, and from wandering in shadows to path to your future.

My path to a career in therapy follows a long road of living. Like everyone, some relationships are light, and others too much fun. As a parent, wife, friend, educator, I have encountered many tough situations in life. While I won’t claim to know all the answers, becoming a therapist in my forties offers me a perspective that can only be gained from having walked through the shadows myself. As you share your experiences with me, there’s a good chance that I will know from my experiences, or the experiences of others in my life, what you’re going through.

While I offer a lot personal experience, I also hold a master degree in counseling psychology, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist.

Psychotherapy for Adult ADHD

You know what you’re suppose to do but have a hard time getting things off the ground. People try to help by telling you how and what to do but it’s so annoying because you already know that. It’s really about getting started or being motivated or organized on what you know you have to do.

Maybe people say you have attention issues but its really about regulating the focus itself because once you get started it pretty difficult to pull yourself away!

This is a typical dynamic with folks with ADHD. Researcher Russell Barkely says this is not a matter of “knowing what to do, but doing what you know.” When I’ve mentioned this to my clients, they light up and say, “Yes, that’s it, he totally gets it!” I aspire to really get it with you, too.

I know these challenges are hard and you’ve suffered from some difficult consequences as a result. Please understand that ADHD is treatable with hard work, perseverance, and perhaps medication. We’ll work on your self-regulation skills in areas such as emotion regulation, interpersonal skills, time management, daily functioning and other areas particular to your needs.

Call me today! I really enjoy working with adults with ADHD and have experience and training in working with people to manage their symptoms and behaviors. Know that you’re not alone and there are effective ways to improve executive functioning skills. With some diligence and a bit of humor, we can roll up our sleeves and get to work.
